Shower Door Buying Guide: Measure & Compare
Measure the opening, not the glass.
Record the finished wall-to-wall width in three places. Measure height from the shower-base threshold or bathtub deck.
Bathtub doors: measure height above the tub deck, not above the bathroom floor. Opening width, glass-panel width and walk-through clearance are different measurements.
A well-chosen glass door starts with the finished opening, not just the nominal size on the box. Use this guide to compare Dcolora sliding shower doors and bathtub doors, then confirm the exact model with your installer.

1. Choose a shower door or a bathtub door
Shower doors are intended for a shower base. Bathtub doors install above a compatible tub deck. Their height and mounting requirements differ; a bathtub-door height is measured from the tub deck, not the bathroom floor. Do not substitute one application for the other without model-specific approval.
2. Measure the finished opening in three places
- Finish the walls and base or tub installation before taking final measurements.
- Measure wall-to-wall width at the top, middle and bottom. Record all three measurements.
- Measure available height from the mounting surface. Check the walls for plumb, the threshold for level, and the usable flat mounting area.
- Check handles, fixtures and any nearby obstructions. Ask your installer to confirm anchoring and wall construction.
The advertised width is an installation range, not the width of one glass panel or the walk-through opening. All measurements must comply with the chosen model’s instructions. A range match alone is not an installation guarantee.
3. Compare the published opening ranges

A 60-inch example: DC-SD263884
DC-SD263884 — matte black frameless sliding shower door has a published opening range of 55–60 inches, a 76-inch overall door height and 8 mm tempered glass. It uses one sliding panel and one fixed panel. The nominal 60-inch size is not the walk-through clearance. Record all three finished widths and check the model instructions for entry clearance and permitted wall tolerances; do not estimate them from the nominal width.
4. Understand single sliding and double sliding
A single-sliding design has one moving panel and one fixed panel. A double-sliding design allows both panels to move. Check the product’s panel configuration and clear entry dimensions; overall opening width is not the same as entry clearance.
5. Compare 6 mm and 8 mm glass without assuming fit
The current collection includes models with 6 mm and 8 mm tempered glass. Thickness does not determine whether a door fits your opening or whether its hardware is compatible. Use the complete model specification rather than choosing by glass thickness alone.
6. Coordinate the hardware finish
Compare matte black, brushed nickel and chrome options by their stated product finish. Photos can appear different across screens and lighting. Do not assume a similarly named finish is an exact match to another manufacturer’s hardware.

Installation and glass safety
Use a qualified installer and the instructions for your exact model. Never cut, drill or modify tempered glass. Do not trim any component unless the manufacturer’s instructions explicitly permit it. If you see damage or are unsure about fit, stop and contact Product Support before installation.
Frequently asked questions
Can a 60-inch door fit every 60-inch shower?
No. Check the exact finished-opening range, height, threshold and wall tolerances. The nominal size alone does not establish compatibility.
Can I trim the glass if the opening is too small?
No. Tempered glass must never be cut or drilled. Choose a model designed for the opening and follow its instructions.
