How to choose a bar or prep sink

Start with the way you use your bar or prep area

A wet bar sink gives drinks preparation and glass rinsing a dedicated place. A prep sink can serve a kitchen island or secondary work area while the main sink handles dishes. Start with the available cabinet and the items you wash most often, then compare the bowl interior rather than choosing by overall width alone.

Small bar sink sizes and minimum cabinet width

Overall sink dimensions, usable bowl dimensions and the countertop cutout are different measurements. A 13-inch-wide sink does not automatically fit a 13-inch cabinet. These compact examples list a 16-inch minimum base cabinet:

Check front-to-back space, mounting hardware, faucet clearance, drain connections and any disposal separately. The outside dimensions are not a cutting template. Confirm the exact model's drawing and your countertop plan with the installer before making a cutout. For a larger primary sink, compare all kitchen sinks or read our kitchen sink size guide.

Black bar sinks: compare material as well as color

Black describes a finish, not one construction material. These two examples have different installation methods and footprints:

  • DC-U2533004BW: gunmetal black stainless steel, undermount, 13 × 15 × 9 inches overall, with a listed 16-inch minimum cabinet.
  • DC-GU261212: matte black quartz composite, drop-in, 15 × 15 × 9.65 inches overall, with a listed 18-inch minimum cabinet.

Compare the exact finish, care instructions and installation requirements on each product page. Do not assume two black sinks share the same material or cleaning requirements. For full-size alternatives, browse black kitchen sinks.

Drop-in or undermount?

A drop-in sink has a rim resting on the countertop. An undermount sink attaches below a compatible countertop. For a replacement, check the existing cutout, mounting method and support: matching the old sink's nominal width is not enough. Select the installation type first, then compare the models that fit your space.

Looking for a drop-in bar sink with a faucet?

The DC-SFDOE00177 lists an included faucet and a 13 × 15 × 9-inch drop-in stainless-steel sink, with a 16-inch minimum base cabinet. By comparison, the DC-T258005 lists a bottom grid, roll-up drying rack and drain assembly; a faucet is not listed in that kit. Check the selected model's package contents and faucet requirements before ordering.

A workstation ledge does not mean every accessory or a faucet is included. Confirm compatible boards, racks and other accessories for the exact model. Visit Dcolora product support for model-specific documents or help with a fit question.
